We are posting homeschool days and other family friendly events to make it easier for homeschool families to find experiential learning opportunities in the SE USA. Feel free to post questions or input about the event. If your question goes unanswered for 24 hours you should contact the venue directly so they can assist you.

Mark your calendar for these upcoming Homeschool Days! Each one will focus on a specific curriculum concurring with five special exhibitions and one permanent collection tour.

Ticketing:
Members: FREE
Children ages 5 and under: FREE
Regular admission for ages 6 and over: $14.50

Upcoming Dates:

November 16, 2018

With Drawn Arms: Glenn Kaino and Tommie Smith
Conceptual artist Glenn Kaino and former Olympian Tommie Smith work together to feature sculptural installations, drawings from students around the country, and objects from the Tommie Smith Archives. Combining the past and present, this powerful exhibition mirrors the racial injustice America faces today. Scavenger hunts, docent-led tours, and art-making workshops will be offered.

Docent-led tour schedule:

10:30–11:10 a.m. (two separate tours will be offered for older and younger learners)
11:10–11:50 a.m. (two separate tours will be offered for older and younger learners)

Tours meet in the Taylor Lobby by the Shop in the Wieland Pavilion.

Art-making workshops will be from 12 noon–2:30 p.m., located in the Greene Family Education Center of the Stent Family Wing. Enjoy a fun opportunity to use an array of materials to create your own one of a kind artwork! Separate workshops offered for younger and older learners.

The High Museum’s Permanent Collection
STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics

The focus of this homeschool day is STEAM. Explore the High’s collection and learn how artists are creative problem solvers and thinkers. See how artists integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and take part in docent-led tours, scavenger hunts, and hands-on artmaking. Separate workshops are available.

Docent-led tour schedule:

10:30–11:10 a.m. (two separate tours will be offered for older and younger learners)
11:10–11:50 a.m. (two separate tours will be offered for older and younger learners)

Tours meet in the Taylor Lobby by the Shop in the Wieland Pavilion.

A Modern Vision: European Masterworks from The Phillips Collection
Fine Art

Explore European Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and Expressionist works of art from the early nineteenth through mid-twentieth centuries. Notice the different aesthetics each movement offers as you observe the exhibition through a fine-art lens. Separate art-making workshops, scavenger hunts, and docent-led tours will be offered.
